VUE D'ESPRIT RENDERS
This was a familiar sight when I was a child. We bred chickens - roosters for sale at Christmas for the Christmas dinner bird, and hens for eggs for sale. We needed to know when the chicks were hatched how many were roosters and how many hens, so we could buy in if we were short of either. If you run a Rhode Island Red rooster with Light Sussex hens, the white chicks are roosters and the brown ones hens, so our chicken pens looked a lot like this.
